ABOUT WINDING WATERS ADVENTURES

The spirit of adventure and exploration is ingrained into every aspect of the Winding Waters Adventures program. Camp Pellissippi which serves as the base of operations for all guided and unguided trek programs, as well as our renowned mountain bike program, can be traced to the first explorers that settled in the area in the mid-eighteenth century. Prior to European exploration of the area, the Cherokee Indians named the river base camp is located on “Pelisipi” which translates into English as “Winding Waters.”

In 1938, the Great Smoky Mountain Council, Boy Scouts of America, opened a permanent camping facility on the property which allowed local Scouts to experience their own adventures every summer. Now, new generations of participants are able to experience the property and its adventure programs. From seasoned adventures who want to race down some of the best single track in the country to youth just wanting to get outside and challenge themselves to learn or do something new, Winding Waters Adventures has a program for them to experience and continue to come back for more.
